Dovetails

Since I've started making furniture and learning about joinery, I've been looking at all the furniture in the house to see how things are put together. Laura has a piece that she brought with her that her family acquired as part of the purchase of their Walpole Island,Ontario cabin. The origin the cabinet is unknown. Here's what I found:

Unevenly spaced dovetails in the drawers.

Solid wood drawer bottoms (not plywood) made of three boards jointed together.

Interesting molding around the drawer front.

The piece is actually a gun cabinet that we've converted to a dish cabinet.

So now I need to learn how to make this joint. The problem is .. I suck at hand sawing as you can see from my gaping dovetail. I have many dovetails to make before I sleep.
