Geology and Woodworking

For my college 6 weeks field course I had to purchase a  geologist's hand lens to be able to classify rocks.  I remember that it was an expensive purchase for my starving student budget, but I went ahead and purchased a good one.  It's a 10x lens.

For sentimental reasons, I haven't been able to part with it.  I was digging around in a drawer, rediscovered it and thought .. "Hey!  I could use this to see my chisel edges!"  It's actually really helped me improve my sharpening.  I can see if an edge is nicked or uneven and see the improved edge much more clearly.

Yeah, yeah .. I'm getting old and can't see anything.
